The original Right to buy scheme
was introduced in 1980 and gave many tenants living in local authority
properties the right to buy them at a discounted price. The level of
discount depends on the area you live in and the length of your tenancy and
is subject to a maximum amount.
You should have the right to buy
if you have been a public sector tenant for at least two years (if your
tenancy began on the 18th January 2005 or after the period is
five years)
Mortgagesaving has access to many
lenders that are willing to offer mortgages to people with the right to buy.
Often a deposit is not required.
You may be able to borrow more
than the Right to Buy purchase price of the property to pay for home
improvements or debt consolidation.
